Privacy & Data - What Type of Data is Captured, and How Does it Protect Privacy?
We use thermal sensors only, meaning no traditional video or audio recording takes place. The sensors detect and record heat patterns exclusively, capturing general outlines and movements without detailed facial or identifying features.
Privacy Enhancements
As shown in the video demonstration, our system offers multiple privacy protection layers:
Original
Standard thermal data showing heat signatures clearly.
Grayscale
Removes color data, further reducing identifiable detail.
Negative
Inverts the thermal image, making precise recognition more difficult.
Gamma Corrected
Adjusts contrast and brightness, minimizing identifiable information.
Full Control: Participants and caregivers have full control over these privacy settings, ensuring a monitoring solution that respects personal dignity while still providing essential care insights.

Program & Participation
Is the pilot free?
For a limited number of new participants—yes. We've renewed all existing units for another 12 months at our own expense and can cover a few additional households at no cost while we seek long-term funding.
How do I apply for a free slot?
- Complete the short interest form below (takes 3 minutes)
- We'll confirm eligibility and coordinate with your support team
- If a free slot is available, we schedule installation. Otherwise, we'll keep you on a priority list and update you as funding opens
Start your application here.
How long does the pilot last?
The pilot runs for 6-12 months with potential for extension. We provide ongoing support, weekly check-ins, and regular feedback sessions throughout the entire duration.
Is this a proven device?
No. It's research-only and not FDA-approved, with no guaranteed safety benefits.
Will it replace my caregiver?
No. It's meant to assist existing supports, not replace them.
What do weekly tasks involve?
Reviewing sleep data and annotating potential events, so the AI can learn patterns.
Can I withdraw anytime?
Yes. You can leave by providing written notice, and we'll arrange equipment return.
What happens to my data if I withdraw?
Data collected before withdrawal remains part of the study; new data collection stops immediately.
Technical & Privacy
Do I need any specific device to participate?
Yes. Participants need an iPad capable of running the latest iPadOS (currently 17 or later) to use our secure companion app for annotations, privacy settings, and sharing data with care teams.
Recommended iPad Specifications
- • Device: iPad (standard, Air, Pro, or Mini)
- • Operating System: iPadOS 17 or later
- • Storage: 64GB total, with at least 12GB of free space recommended for optimal app performance and reliable operation.
Need an iPad?
A limited supply is available for qualifying participants on a first‑come basis—please apply early.
Are my images recorded?
We capture continuous thermal data that can be replayed, but it only shows heat patterns—not high‑resolution details of a person’s face or body. Outlines can be visible (e.g., posture or coverage), yet the imagery remains far less identifiable than standard video.
Learn more about privacy enhancements.
What area does the sensor capture?
We position the sensor to focus on the sleeping area (the bed) plus about 8 inches around it. This lets us detect movements (e.g., a hand shifting from side to side) without capturing large portions of the room. If another bed or a roommate is more than a foot away, our sensor generally will not record them.
What if someone else, like a caregiver or roommate, enters that area?
Anyone who steps into the sensor's focus zone (roughly the bed and about 8 inches around it) may appear in the continuous thermal data. Because we only capture heat patterns, details like facial features or exact clothing are not clearly visible. However, privacy remains a priority.
The sensor also has a privacy shutter you can slide closed to temporarily block the lens whenever you want to prevent any data from being captured. If roommates, family, or caregivers prefer not to be recorded, they can either avoid that small boundary around the bed or utilize this privacy shutter when entering the area.
HIPAA Compliance
Access to data is strictly managed and requires authorization. All access requests and views are logged and auditable. Our systems and processes are designed to support HIPAA compliance in covered settings.
Costs & Funding
What happens after free slots are filled?
We will look into waiver funding options or wait for the next round of funding to become available. The equipment qualifies under Assistive Technology (AT) or Remote Support categories, and we can help you navigate the waiver application process.
Is equipment covered by Ohio waivers?
Yes! The sensor package qualifies under Assistive Technology (AT) or Remote Support equipment. We can help your team navigate the paperwork and ensure proper billing.
I already receive Remote Support services. Can I use this?
Yes. If your monitoring company is willing, we can supply the hardware and train their staff to use our dashboard. Equipment may be billed under Remote Support equipment, creating a seamless integration with your existing services.
For Providers
I'm an ICF Provider. How can we participate?
We offer tailored solutions specifically for ICF providers, including the option to set up a centralized Nurse Monitoring Center. This enables all sensors to feed directly into a single monitoring station, eliminating the need for individual iPads for each resident.
Please contact us through our Remote Support Initiative page to explore this setup.
I'm a Remote Support or HCBS Provider. How can we participate?
We'd be happy to work with your organization to integrate our privacy-first thermal monitoring technology into your existing remote support and monitoring services. We offer comprehensive training and ongoing support for seamless integration.
Please reach out via our Remote Support Initiative page to discuss customized options for your clients.
